Practical training — home-electronics repair

SMT plus.CZ Ltd. has launched a practical course in autumn 2023 covering repairs of home electronic appliances. The course builds on experience from teaching practical electronics at VUT FEKT Brno and follows current trends toward thrift and circular use of devices.

The goal is to acquire basic theoretical knowledge and the practical ability to carry out small repairs of household electronics. Courses are held at our facility. The schedule is typically theory in the morning, practice in the afternoon.

Theoretical part — lectures

A combination of the following topics can be selected:

  • Introduction — basic safety rules, essential equipment and where to obtain it.
  • Characteristics and construction of current and older products, principles of economical appliance use.
  • Plastics and metals used and their characteristics.
  • Joining materials — screws, rivets, adhesives (characteristics).
  • Principles of proper soldering.
  • Common faults in household appliances and recommended repair procedures.

Practical part

1× 4 h

The following workstations will be available:

  • Measuring electrical quantities with a multimeter and clamp ammeter.
  • Bonding various plastics; repairs with a hot tool.
  • Repair of broken casing parts, covers and dovetails (using a metal insert and bonding).
  • PCB repairs (rigid and flexible), replacement of electronic components and connectors.
  • Repair of torn and broken power cords.
  • Removal of stripped or damaged screws; repair of cracked and stripped threads.

During the practical part, participants may — by personal agreement — repair an appliance they have brought along. Every participant receives feedback and a certificate of completion.

4 to 6 participants per course.
